The Governor's Mansion captures a slice of history and carries forward to the present. Originally built in 1877, the mansion was the official residence of the our state's leaders from 1903 to 1967. There were 13 different governors living in the house; including our current one, Edmund "Jerry" Brown, when he was a college student. Since no one lives in the house anymore, the rooms are staged to capture the collective history of all its residents. They contain different artifacts from each family. The park has posted many images of the building here and a related series of lessons here.
As of January 2015, the Mansion is closed for renovations. Its magnificent exterior can be viewed as you walk by. A written version on their guided tour is posted here. Check here for updates on its reopening. School tours will be available when the building is open again.
